iTunes now has built-in WASAPI which means bit-perfect output and in most people's minds means it is going to be identical to any other bit-perfect output. The difference between this player and itunes is that this player is optimized for efficient use of the computer hardware, and it gives first priority to playing music, with cmp you shut down windows processes like explorer.exe and load music entirely into RAM which a minority of people think will improve the sound quality. As for the difference between ALAC and FLAC, there's probably no audible difference unless the decoder is broken. I have heard one or two people say they prefer uncompressed WAV to ALAC or FLAC, claiming that it sounds less flat. I'm not sure but maybe there's a tiny bit of difference in how hardware must work when playing compressed vs. uncompressed but it's probably not perceivable. If there's a difference or more people thought there's a difference cmp will probably have an option to let you convert compressed to uncompressed before putting it in RAM.
