SR 60 or Senn eH150. the latter has more bass, the former, as others have probably stated are well suited for rock and metal. you'll enjoy both.

Why the 150 if you can get the 350 as low as $50? Or maybe you confused the two.

no, I've not listened to the 350, so I recommended the 150, which I've heard. But it can't hurt to upgrade I suppose. Still, I liked the 150's.

Lots of folks lookin' for los cost today. Under $80 are Koss KSC/75, Koss Plug, Koss PortaPro, Senn PX100, Grado 60's, and you might find a Koss KSC/35 on eBay. I did, dirt cheap. All depends on what style you prefer.

another vote for the Grado sr60...THE gateway drug to the wonderful (and expensive) world of head-fi.

Vary varied taste in music. Not usually any death metal or hardcore though. Definitely looking at the MS-1s, ATH-A500s, and the K-81s. Any recommendations within those? Others?

thanks!

PS, After further reading... I guess I could bump it up to $100.

A hundred, huh?

I guess I'll have to mention my personal favorite in that category; the venerable MS-1.

Certainly worth a look!

I'd say eH350 no doubt, since they fair well with anything but deathcore rock.

The MS1's are better suited towards rock music and don't have the same soundstage. They're still reasonably good headphones.

The K81DJ's are decent, but IMO not as natural as the eH350. They have more upfront bass, and slightly recessed mids.

At $99 you can add the RP-21s. You can also find them very close to your original budget but you won't find the price advertised that low.

I would agree the Grado 60's are an upgrade, but would stretch the budget for MS-1's if you like the Grado sound or RP-21's.
