I'm pretty new here at head-fi and after making the first jump and getting an AD700 and loving it. I went ahead and built a mini3 and did the diyMod to my ipod nano. Now I need something portable that is similar to the AD700. Isolation isn't necessary, just the best sound from something under $100.

So far, I've been looking at the CK7, PK2 and PK3, and possibly them CM700, but it is a bit of a stretch. Which is best for me? Or is there something else I should look at?

keep in mind that an open headphone and a set of earbuds are going to be pretty different.

I guess what I'm looking for is an affordable and portable earphone with the best SQ that I can get for under $100.

I can't decide on which of these earphones to get because iem and earbuds aren't normally compared to each other and bass quantity is also an important factor for many people. But for me isolation and bass quantity isn't important, just clean sound and a decent soundstage.

My recommendation is PK3 for earbud or ER6i for IEM, either should cost less than $100.

Thanks for the advice.

I decided on saving up for a PK1, so in the mean time I'll be playing with a KSC75. I will probably try Kramer's and the impedance mod. Is the blu-tak mod worthwhile on these? And are there any other mods?

Blu-tak mod is more for closed 'phone than for open, and you can really open KSC75 up.

If you are planning to get a PK1, don't forget to pickup an amp. You'll probably need ~$300.

More than good enough. Just me being lazy and not reading your OP carefully enough :p

The ER-6 i sounds nothing like the AD700, The KSC 75 does not sound much like the AD700 but it is a lot closer in sound to it than the ER-6 i.

I have the AD700s and iM716s, and find them relatively similar, although I lack anything else to compare them to really besides my PX100s. Both very analytical but the 716s marginally in the the punchy and particularly airy base on the AD700s. Also of course they have little in the way of soundstage as you'd expect from an IEM.

as good as any of the earphones, buds, canalphones or iems sound, none of them will be able to rival the excellent soundstage of the ad700. you cannot compare the sound coming from them to especially a sub 100$ pair of buds or portable phones. they will have that in your head sound rather than the out of head and more spacial sound of the big boys. good luck mate
