Is there such a thing as the best sounding unamped headphone?

I mean IMO mp3s were meant to be listened portably. Carrying a brick sized amp around is ridiculous to me and I just want to keep things simple.

So what headphones sound good unamped? I have the e4cs but I want more thump to the bass and wider soundstage which can only be found in large sized headphones...

IMO the Alessandro MS-1 needs an amp out of the standard ipod headphone jack (I'm assuming the other grados do too) because they just don't go loud enough

, But they're totally fine out of your standard soundcard headphone jack

Ergo 2 is the best sounding headphone out of an iPod I've heard, but its not exactly the most portable thing ever.
