"Best" SDHC player.

I don't see the file numbers as a limitation on the D2. I rip some CDs as a single large file (concerts, concept albums, etc.) so I don't get that annoying gap in the music. You'll definitely hit the barrier if you like ripping tiny (highly compressed) files.

Considering the D2 takes FLAC and Vorbis..those are much better options than mp3. Vorbis >>>>> mp3 anyday. In fact most of my collection on the D2 = Vorbis (at -q8). Just for the love of god buy some decent earphones and dump the default iAudio buds ASAP as they don't do the player justice!

Also updating to the latest firmware will help too (although I do believe the latest manufactured D2's come with the latest firmware installed already, 2.57).

As already stated would be used with my Sennheiser HD25-I headphones.

I listen to a lot of mixes and tacks done by friends and people I know through forums and most of this is uploaded in mp3 of varying quality. This is useful for maximum playability through different softwares and hardwares and is most people's common point of reference for the figures.
