Best recorded albums of all time?

I've been looking for a live jazz festival recording I bought in something like 1985 or 1986 that was stolen when my work van was broken into a few years later, that I considered the best recording I had in the 80s. Please help if this rings a bell ...

It had a maroonish cover. Picture of a female singer belting it out in a similar monotonish maroon color. A few different artists were the CD. Live recording. Feature was the woman on the cover (wish I remember who it was, or festival name, anything, lol). When she came on she said something like "YA ... we're gunna really start rock'n ...". And she/they (the band) did!

... really hoping someone out there says "ya, I know that album" and can save me from my endless search for it! :)

I've Got The Music In Me

Thanks for the reply. Good album. But after sampling the whole album on Amazon, i can say for sure that's not the one I'm looking for.

Not sure Im a good judge of this and it's probably just productions I really like but here goes anyway, YMMV and pinch of salt to be taken. Leaving out the usual suspects (Eagles, Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac) leaves me with...

Extreme - II: Pornografitti
Extreme - III Sides to Every Story
Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
Jellyfish - Bellybutton
Jellyfish - Spilt Milk

I don't know if they're the best recorded of all time, so much music I haven't heard, but all brilliant productions in their own right imo

Whenever I stumble upon Extreme I remember this memorable concert. Great band, with such a great energy. Where is this kind of energy today?
And yes, those albums sound fantastic.

Hi all. Not sure if already mentioned in this thread but D’Angelo, album ‘brown sugar’ has real high production values imo. I call it funky soul something :) Oh and on Tidal

Will update this post once in a while when more music comes to mind.

Some other album recommendations:
- Jose James: The Dreamer
- Lizz Wright: Salt
- Thomas Dybdahl: One Day You'll Dance for Me, New York City

Milcho Leviev - Man from Plovdiv, recomended by steve Guttenberg as one of the best portrayals of a piano in recorded music. very very crisp and its that japanese style cool/modal jazz I love so very much. cant find it streaming though.

here's a live show from the same time period,

this album is one of the best sounding in my collection.
From the liner notes; The great saxophonist Ben Webster wanted to know the words for every ballad he played. If he could not remember the words he would not play the song. Paul Berner Band have taken Ben’s rule to heart. These Lennon & McCartney songs are being sung without words but the outstanding musicianship of these musicians ensures that every word is heard.
