How difficult is the process of recabling?

I'll be fine if its just a case of unplug one lead and plug another in but if its more difficult than that I might give it a miss.

Well from the really portable I have tried I can recommend:

Really budget.
Senn Mx550

A lil higher budget
Etymotic ER6i
BOSE In ear phones (Awesome for the price, if isolation is not important)
Shure E3 (I love these for the price)

A lil higher budget
Shure E4 (very detailed, but i prefer the rounder superfi sound)
Etymotic ER4
Super fi 5 pro

High Budget
Shure E5c (I think the superfis are a much better deal though a lil inferior.
Westone UM2

Crazy budget
Shure E500 (in my opinion one of the best sounding things ever)

Damn, I guess I'll have to try a pair of HD25s... they seem to be the reference portable headphones...

personally i find the 25's a snug fit, but not an uncomfortable fit.

the velour pads

the stnadard pads have this horrible, plastic/ fake leather thing going on, that do nothing but makd your ears sweat.

now, yes my 25's are more than 10 years old, but the pads wore out very quickly, and when ni say quickly, i mean they only lasted 5-6 years before they were obliterated.
