Hi there. What portable amp/dac (must do both) synergizes the best with the K701? Budget is $500. Thanks in advance!

You're very brave. I wouldn't like to go out wearing my K701's

Sorry I can't help with portable. If you were to settle on a desktop amp I would recommend the Meier Cantate.

Read that the P-51 drives the K701 rather adequately from a couple of people over at Jaben..

You may want to try that

The OP wants a DAC

The Headamp Pico has already been suggested - it works fine to my knowlegde.

I have had good experiences - although short ones at meets - with K 701 and the RSA Predator; it might not seem like the perfect match, but as I listened a lot to classical and metal, it made the K 701 come alive in a great way.

If it's only supposed to be semi-portable, then the X-Can v3 and X-DAC from Music Fidelity might also be an option. They're not to weighty, and if tubes are to your liking they offer something quite interesting in their price range.

i think u might have a USB DAC Carat Peridot $200 and Corda Arietta $225, i think this is a good combo since i planned to set this combo (i have to move places a lot too, alas exchange student life

Ah well. If we're doing separates then the Meier Arietta ( I have one ) and the Musical Fidelity V-DAC ( I'm getting one ).

The K701 and Arietta work fine together.

for my 701's I have the basso d3 but then i purchased a RSA SR71A and even without the DAC it exceeds the d3 out of the water with more cohesive bass and general spatial imaging ..

I'd say Pico. The implementation dac-side is better than the alternatives in my opinion, and the amp is solid as far as commercial portables go.
