Currently I own the sennheiser HD497's, but they leak too much sound and my roomies don't appreciate my taste in music (a lot of metal and rock). I'm thinking about buying the HD280pros. Are they the best isolating headphones under $125? Will I notice an upgrade from the HD497's?
Thanks.

Would it be worth the extra money for the Beyer DT770-PRO-250? Also if I went with the Beyer DT770, would I need to buy an amp? (I use a computer for all my audio listening, not an mp3 player)

Sorry I'm asking so many questions, I just want a really nice headphone setup.

Whether it's worth the extra money for the DT770-250 is your decision. The rate of decreasing returns between the HD280 and DT770 in terms of bang for buck is certainly alot less than the rate of decreasing returns of equipment that alot of people here buy.

DT770-250 is usually said to benefit a great deal from an amp on these forums. Don't have it so I can't give you my personal experiences. Note that if you are running it out of your computer most people will advise you to upgrade your source (soundcard). Chaintech AV710 is $25 and many consider it amazing budget card.

Although with the AV710 You definitely need some sort of amp, since the signal from the Av710 headphone out is not amplified properly, from what I've heard.

If you live in the US and near a Guitar Center you might consider the DT770/80s... I think they sometimes match Amazon's price for the 770/250s? Worth a try.

I think the 770/250s would probably sound like crap without an amp, but that is my opinion...

You might also want to consider Beyer's DT250-80s or Ultrasone's HFI-550s while you are increasing your budget...

Oh and DEMO the headphones if you can.
