So a few years ago I got a hp p1. Is this unit still state of the art or is there a new better portable dac/headphone amp that you can simply just plug in the firewire to use from a iPad into the dac? Thanks

I am enjoying my Centrance M8.
It has all the power you would need for any headphone, and it's Apple USB compatible. It has impedence and gain switches, as well as DSP switches for bass and treble boost. I use an iPod touch with 64Gb of FLAC files. also works with my IPad without the CCK. Headphones include modded Fostex T50RP, Audeze LCD2F, NAD HP50.
