Hey guys, I'm looking for an IEM under $100. I'm looking for great bass, mids, and highs. I know that's hard to find, but tell me the best I can get in that price range.

The easiest and quickest way to get the info you are looking for is to use the search function for similar threads. Here are a few:

BTW I have the Westone UM1's (new just over $100) and I like them a lot. If you are on a limited budget, keep your eyes peeled on the FS forums here. Head-Fi'ers take great care of their equipment, and buying used you wil be able to get a much better pair of IEM's than you would buying new.

If you don't mind the somewhat rolled-off treble, the Sennheiser CX500 is a very good choice.

I like the CX500 for these reasons:

1) Very high efficiency--you can get pretty loud volumes without the enormous expense and hassle of an external portable headphone amp.

2) Excellent isolation--the eartips Sennheiser provides work very well isolating external noise.

3) Clear, well-defined bass and midrange.

I'm surprised there aren't more comments about the CX500. Lots of people seem to have the CX300s and everyone knows about the bloated bass, etc. I like the fit of the CX300 but not the sound.

Senn CX500 is a significantly better sounding canalphone than CX300 - it has tighter, more defined bass response and more accurate, dynamic and natural sounding mids and highs.

Westone UM1s can be obtained used under $100. That's the best you can do with that money.

I'm using JVC's marshmellows now (with a custom ear pad). Now I know these are not great canal phones, but they sound decent enough with some EQ applied.

From what I'm reading the CX 300 would not be a big improvement. I'm not a bass head, though I do find the JVC's a little light in the bass dept. Could be because I have small ears and inserting the plug in deeply is a problem.

So for anyone that has listened to both , would this not be a worthwhile upgrade (even at $20 or less after rebate)?

Hi Pianist,
You've used quite a few Yuin phones, how do the PK1 & 2 compare to the Senn CX500?
