  I think I've come to the conclusion that the hp50/focal spirit are too small. Im not sure where to look at this point, I'm indecisively stuck in a gloomy IEM or Full-sized realm...

Yeah, the HP50's headband has some clamping force and the FSP's ear cups are snug, to put it politely.
 
The M-100 has optional XL Memory Cushions which increase comfort and alter the sound signature; however, they are "fun" headphones, so if you want accuracy and neutrality, look elsewhere.
 
For an extra hundred dollars, the HiFiMAN HE-400i looks promising.
