Right now I'm looking at the HD598. I'm looking for the best headphones that has only 1 wire connecting to it (a lot of the better headphones have 2 wires, 1 on each side of the earcups).

Is there anything better than the HD598? In terms of SQ and comfortability. Price is no issue.

AKG K812: http://www.head-fi.org/t/685339/new-akg-flagship-k812-first-impression

Though being single-ended is a con to most people here.

I think it's a little early to crown K812 considering how few have heard it, how inconsistent their impressions have been, and how much new owners want to believe it was worth buying.

One wire though. I agree with your general idea though. This is like saying the best red-colored headphone is the TH900.

If price is no issue, you could always pay someone to rewire something you like so it has only one cable.

Many would say that T1 is best, or another Beyer such as DT880. Some will prefer an AKG such as K702 annie. Even Fostex mods are worth considering it you want to try a planar. I would prefer a vintage AKG.

I'd try Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250ohm.

Consider the Ultrasone Signature Pro. One cable (comes with two interchangeable cables, 3.5 mm and 1/4 inch plugs). I find the SQ to be very good for a closed can and I can wear them all day though confort is a very personal issue so ymmmv

My vote goes for the Sig Pro on the higher end of things,  on a budget the Beyer DT-250-80 is a solid contender.
