Yes, this is a specific request. I have a $105 gift card (don't ask) to Walmart.com. I am trying to look for the best portable headphones I can get. I am not really interested in IEMs or earbuds, because they just don't feel comfortable in my ear. Something on my ear or around it would be nice, and certainly capable of blocking out a good amount of outside noise. I just didn't want to put this in the full-sized headphone section because those can get a little ridiculous in size and I want something I can bring around with me and hang around my neck when they are not in use. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot, guys!

EDIT: Just a note that I like to listen to all kinds of music, but mostly rock and hip-hop (more of the modern music, really).

Personally, if I were you i'd see if I could trade it with a friend / family member for cash.

Wal-Mart isn't exactly a purveyor of high quality audio goods. Better bargains (and products for that matter) can be found elsewhere.

If you can't trade it though, a quick look at their site lets me know they at least have a few alright options: JVC HARX700, Sony MDRV6, Senn HD515, JVC HARX900, Sont MDRSA1000. Any of those (do some poking around on the site to find which bets fits the sound your looking for) will be your best bet, though all overpriced. In the case you can't cash in the card on someone else. ;P sp70.

the stock in walmart stores vary, so the site catalogue doesnt really help, unless you are ordering online

but if you insist, the JVC flats, since they are small and cheap
the selection at walmart isn't that good is it?

I don't mind if, without the gift card, it means I am paying $160 instead of $120 or whatever. However, these gift cards were free and I wasn't expecting them, so if it means $55 instead of $120, that's what matters to me. :)

Not interested in buying at Walmart the store, as Walmart.com will suit me well. I am not looking for cheap, either. I am looking for the best quality I can get for my budget at the site.

Do what sp70 said if you can. Someone who shops at Walmart often wouldn't mind paying even $75 for a $105 gift card. You "lose" $30, but you'll be able to buy better headphones and cheaper.

Really good prices on the SA3000 and SA5000, but you'd probably hate them on hip hop. If you like electronic, classical, and such. They'd be too revealing of flaws for modern music. Caveat, I've only heard the 5000.

lol, well, honestly, I'm not really into spending that much for headphones. I heard after $150 or so, things start to get really close together and the increases are barely incremental.

I was looking at buying the AKG81 DJ's off of Amazon. Would those be a better investment? Basically, I'm trying to keep it under $100 without the gift card. lol

Diminishing returns? Well yes, to an extent. For example, the $400 SA5000s sound about 20-30% better (imo) than my $150 K271s, instead of 166.6% better. I haven't heard the K81s for more than 10 minutes, so I won't comment. They are pretty bassy though. I'd imagine they'd be decent with hip hop.
