Best headphones for classical under $90

LOL, yeah, closed phones are a bitch. It's really hard to find good ones, especially under $100. Maybe, for a little more, you could get the Etymotic ER-6? Not sure how it would work for classical but it's another option.

I'll say the 280's are about as good as it gets for classical in this price range. Classical is my primary music choice, so I know how hard it is to get right. I have the Etty's, and they're OK for chamber and solo instruments, but if he's going to listen to orchestral, the 280's have a more physical bass presentation that is more convincing than the Ety's. Plus, the Ety's are somewhat bright.

Avoid the Sony's they are horrible.

tell him to mow a couple of lawns and hunt for a used beyer dt250. How's the A500 for classical??..a bit over the budget, but a couple more bucks won't kill him.

Oops, missed this point.

Senn280 DEFINITELY. I can't stand the v6 for classical -- the sound is all out of balance. The 280 is quite a decent classical phone.

Same conclusion in my post.
