The silence is deafening, isnt it?

I would not recommend anything so cheap for classical. He needs to spend more than that to get a good headphone, e-bay used bargains excepted, of course.

Koss Porta-Pros or KSC-35s. They're musical and a good value for the $$. One could do far worse for far less money.

Grado SR-80 -- they should sound great with classical.

Edit -- oh, he needs the cans to be closed? How about the Denon AH-D550? Not sure why he wants closed cans for classical tho, imo they are less than ideal.

my brothers a violinist and listens to classical music almost exclusivly and will not let his K-501s go for anything.

I picked up my pair mint w/box and manual for 70 bucks shipped.

Give them a look, the were my first great cans.

Where did you get your K-501s for 70 bucks!?

Ain't it retail for something like around 200 bucks?

Thirded.

However, if closed cans are a must, the 280s should fit the bill.

closed phones for classical under 90 dollars? There's nothing to suggest. HD280s are horrible, V6s are painful, ex70s are boomy, px200s are dark... i can't suggest anything to you.
