I would say most classical musicians like to listen all types of classical music, especially great pieces which do not necessarily feature their own instrument. I am a professional clarinetist and very rarely listen to clarinet music. Although I am unfamiliar with the above headphones, I am an Ety 4S man myself, I think choices that would be good for orchestral and chamber music would be ideal if you are trying to find a set of headphones for a classical musician.

The great thing is if he doesn't have a good pair of headphones, I bet most of the suggestions above would blow him away, and would very much get him hooked into this hobby. Sorry about his wallet.
