So basically I want to know the best headphone I can buy without an amp, it has to be better than the m50s and cheaper then 250 dollars, thanks guys

Audio Technica ATH-A900X (closed) headphones
Digbuy is selling them for $154.99, plus tax & shipping.
As they are only around 40-Ohms, will worked plugged into just about everything.

I love my Sennheiser HD-25 II's. They sound beautiful with or without an amp. I use it commuting everyday and occasionally at my desk when I'm not using other headphones. I have auditioned the m50's multiple times and felt they weren't as comfortable as I would like. To my ears, the Sennheisers sound much better as well. You can find them almost anywhere online, I bought mine from a local guitar center for around $215 with taxes. Best of luck! edit: Go into a guitar center near you and ask if you can audition the m50 and HD25 side by side, they will usually let you do it if you are interested in buying one of them.

Are those better than the m50s?

I've only listened to the ATH-M50s once, nice sound, but the ATH-A900X are at least one step above.

I like the sound of my DT770 better then the ATH-M50s
and I like my ATM-A900Xs better then my DT770s

the 580 price fits too, which one is better?

The 580 have more bass quantity than the 680. But the latter have more bass quality.

@purple, is the ATM-A800x a new model?

You should really define "better than the M50s" better.  Better at what?

IMO, any of the cheap grado's are great unamped and "better than the M50"... they're also voiced entirely differently and are open where the M50s are closed, so are unlikely to meet the criteria if you want a portable headphone or one that is good with rap/hiphop/dubstep or anything that wants lots of bass impact.
