Hi,

I'm not a huge audiophile, so I'd like to buy a nice headphone and forget the amp. So this does limit the choices I know. Also, skip the grados. I'd like a headphone that either fits around the ear or block out sound. Sorry don't know all the terms.

So what are the recommendations?

Sennheiser HD595 if you dont care about sound isolation.

All very good questions, but for non-audiophiles who want to dispense with the amp...

Grado SR60 is a standard pick, good all-purpose phone
Sony V6 - closed design, rich but colored sound, portable

Root around in headphonereviews.org to cut down on your options.

Mostly listen to alternative rock (tool/live/chevelle) and trance (BT/Sasha)

For gaming doesn't really matter, I use any headphones.

I prefer sound isolation.

100-200 USD

I looked at the Denon D2000, but looks like I might need amp for that. The previous one I had was the D550 and I liked that a lot, lasted me 3 years, wasn't exactly careful with it, just wore out. Something like that maybe?

Where to buy would be also great recommendation.

Nope not a closed design & they sound like fart under-amped.

The HD595/555 are also open-back

AT-A900 or MDRV6/7506 with DT250 pads

**edit**
Audio cubes sells em for certain, do a google search I think they have em at Amazon too.
