There are plenty of people here who have heard all of these commonly available cans.

I've owned all of them.
I love RS-1's the most and the HD650's with equinox balanced comes 2nd.
I sold K701 and DT990 already.

They are all great.
It's just a matter of preference.

HD650 clearly on the lead, RS1 and K701 fighting bloodily of the second place. Voted for RS1. Perhaps DT990 option should include DT880 too in same option, since both have similar soundsignature and major difference being highs and bass, and how much midrange is affected by those two.

I voted HD-650 but to qualify that I have not heard anything from Beyerdynamic ever. I have also not heard those Grados either but I think I have a feel for the "Grado sound" form other lower end Grado products I have heard. I have the K701s on right now (not mine) and they're great but the HD-650s are still my alltime fav.

I just read an opinion that said the person was very sensitive to highs and that the K701s gave him headaches. I shook my head in agreement as my ears are currently ringing after trying once again to make the 701s work for me this time with a tube amp. I looked back over some of these posts and found that I had given a ringing endorsement to the 701s in early Dec. Now it's my ears that are ringing. I now have both the 701s and the Senn 650s and I'd like to put 'em in a blender. That would make the perfect headphone for my ears I think. Not too bright, not too bassy. Just right.
