Best flagship can?

Err, I hate these polls. Many people who read them look at the numbers and miss out on what the individual Head-Fiers have to say in the thread.

I think the Sennheisers are technically the best. The K701 and RS1 are the most fun to me though.

Notably absent from the poll is the Omega II

Senns, would have voted GS1k's if they were there in place of the RS1's.

The edition 9's would have my vote if it were up there

I must agree. The DT880 deserves a spot before the 990. And the GS1k should replace the RS1. No UE11s, SE530s, Westone 3s, or Ultrasones? No AT or Denon as well.

I think the 650 has to win this, because when you said "best", which means to me, all around best. the 650's do nothing blatantly wrong, and while I find them boaring, I do think they are technically some of the best in taht sense. the others just aren't balanced well enough to contend, imo

But if you want to ask favorite, then you might get some different results...

I went with the RS-1. I have the HD-650 and K-701, and neither are as much fun as the Grado. The HD-650 is a solid headphone with few faults, but the K-701 was a step down for AKG.

Funny thing is that Grado, Sennheiser and AKG all made better headphones at one time. None of these can touch the HP-1000, Orpheus and K-1000. They're not bad by any measure, but it's sad that their best work is out of production. Same with Sony, for that matter.

HD650 for me as well. The Senn HD-650 w/ cable upgrade can elevate to a top tier class with greats amp and sources.

only considering the headphones i own or have owned (HD580, HD600, HD650, K501, K701, SR325, RS1, DT880 '03, DT880 '05, W100), i would say, in this order:

- HD650
- RS1
- K701

Talk about serious downgrade.
