Right, let's get down to it. What's the best sounding engine you've ever heard? Doesn't have to be in person.

My favorite is the Mazda 787B. Just can't believe the fierce howl of a 4-rotor at full tilt.

The BRM V16 comes to mind too. Way ahead of its time and as such plagued by reliability issues, but man, that sound...

The 787B sounds so raw.. I remember hearing it for the first time in GT4. I was like "what the hell is that?!"

I remember seeing the Zonda C12S or something on Top Gear. That sounds nuts.

Another favorite of mine is the Grand National, the way the turbo spools is incredible. This one's tame but you can hear exactly what I mean.

The motor in that car is actually a V10 and yes, that would be my choice as well as far as production cars are concerned. Sweet glorious exhaust notes.

My neighbor has a black Mercedes SLR Mclaren and it sounds nice too, but it can't hold a candle to the F430's high strung V8.

My father actually got to drive Richard Petty's actual nascar around a circuit and that sounded pretty good too.

MV Agusta Brutale, hands down without even thinking for a second. Sounds mean as hell...but, if you take out the snorkels in the airbox, it sounds, literally, 10x as mean...

Not a car but I would sell a kidney to be able to hear the Honda NR500 in full song. oval pistoned V4 screaming at 20000 RPM.
