Did I hear someone say showmanship?

Ok, he's pretty over the top, but Steve Moore can sure put together a string of moves without screwing up the music!!

I'll throw another great into the ring, although he is better known as the King of the Vibes, The Boss of the Backbeat‚ and the original Mister Excitement.  He was the artist who set the stage for something that was called rock and roll.  The one and only Lionel Hampton.

Here's a video of Hamp, Gene Krupa and Chico Hamilton (from left to right)

A drum battle with Duffy Jackson

And another with the great Louie Bellson and Don Lamond which starts off with them showing their creativity around a single tom before moving up to full kits

I don't know if I can think of a single other musician who seemed to have as much fun performing as Lionel Hampton, the man truly loved what he did, and boy did he do it well.  One of the things I admire most in Hamp is his amazing sense of musicality since he always seems to be playing something tasteful, although that doesn't mean he was afraid to show off his chops!
