I have just finished setting up a file server and am ready to re-rip all of my CD’s into the highest quality possible, without going .wav

What do you guys suggest?
Very high quality MP3?
Ogg?
are there others that should be considered?

Maybe everyone should list suggestions then we make it poll

If not Ape, look into SHorteN or Flac.

^ What the above 2 said. I use Monkey's Audio and shorten. Lossless compression, so there is NO sound quality loss.

Is there a way to rip right off of the cd? It seems that i cant do this?

I use EAC (Exact Audio Copy). Just set it for APE, click copy to mp3, and out pops APE's of your cd.

I second the request for links

I cant really tell any differance from 320 bit MP3 and .ape, but I CAN tell one from CD to 320 bit MP3

it should read:

320 MP3= .ape
CD> MP3 and .ape


I just do not find that ape is a quality jump over .mp3 and it doesnt sound like a cd, to my ears

I use MPC most of the time, it's more than enough to be transparent at any case. reasonable bitrate ~210kbps.
