This thread is probably not going to give you a very consistent answer - Amps and DACs don't get changed very often in setups, relative to the sheer number of amp and DAC makers. People are just going to say what they have or have heard, which is going to be a rather limited sampling.

Price, size, sound quality, features, build quality, availability, .. or a combination of any/several of them?

Is there a specific reason you are restricting yourself to one box?

This is of course not including custom made stuff where you can have a DAC and an amp stuffed into 1 chassis.

From what I've seen, they seem to be cheaper. For an amp and dac, my budget is around 400. Do you have any recommendations for a separate dac and amp for a budget?
