Best Closed Headphones under $150 (preferably on amazon.com)

what was it about the M50's sound signature that you did not like.  that should help move this discussion along.  every headphone has someone who does not like it and thinks it is over hyped.

just adding one thing to the mix.  I suggest that rather than listing all the things you listen to, give us the 2 or 3 types of music you listen to the most.  In my opinion any decent headphone will be adequate for almost all genres.  Most however will do a few things very well.  Since you will not get something that is outstanding on everything, put the focus on what you like the best.

For example if you listen to rap hip hop etc the most, I would expect you to like a bass heavy headphone.  This will not be as good for the acoustic music that you mentioned, but it will work.

What do audio and recording engineers use in the studio?  They must use sucky cans right?

That's why nearly every professional recording studio or audio engineer uses the following (under $150) because of they are accurate, no-nonsense headphones and have stood the test of time for years upon years.

Sony MDR-7506 / V6
Sennheiser HD280 Pro
Shure SRH440
DT770 Pro (pushing it pricewise)
ATH-M50

I'm personally a huge fan of the DT770, SRH440 and 7506 myself.  HD280 for isolation and M50 for a warmer presentation.

So guys, I was thinking that I really love soundstage and might in fact be willing to sacrifice it for isolation. What pair of headphones do you recommend? I was thinking the Sennheiser 598 but it is a little out of my price range.
