Looking to upgrade from my M50s. Started another thread asking for a comparison with the SRH-940s and Denon D2000s, but I think I made the mistake of limiting my options.

So, what say you?

Thank you both for your replies.

@bmeat unfortunately the D5000 seem a bit out of my price range.

@The Shining unfortunately they must be closed; I plan to use the at work.

Thanks for your replies.

@idletime1213 yeah, I'm really leaning towards the 940s. But keep the suggestions coming!

@IndieScent unfortunately I'm not a big fan of IEMs. Always found them... um... intrusive.

So far I'm thinking the SRH-940s, Denon D2000 or Beyer DT 770 Pro might be the best choices. What do y'all think?

BTW, portability would be a plus, but not a requirement. I'm more interested in SQ, specifically for the acoustic tones (classical, jazz, vocals, etc.)

I only have one pair of closed cans in my collection, the Beyer DT 770 Pro80Ω, but I'm listening to some Mozart with them right now and they sound real good (for a closed can that is). They are also the most comfortable headphone that I have ever worn. I have read that the 250Ω & 600Ω have less bass, so if you are going to go with the DT770, maybe look into those options.

Seeing as you are in Toronto (?), I bought mine at Long & McQuade (Bloor and Christie) for about $175 (came to just under $200 with tax).
They have a 30 day return policy, and you can try them out in the store, along with tons of other cans for comparison.

For classical most people want a much more balanced response than the DT770 will give you.  The SRH940 is a great choice, though it's a little light on bass.  The A900 and K550 are two other considerations.
