Great to hear, those were my first "real" cans too, and are still my reference for metal. Great decision.

Hm, so you didn't find them 'tinny'?

Like I've stated, I'm not audiophile, so to me they didn't seem too tinny. I do have an idea of what you were talking about, but it didn't bother me.

Opps, you'll have to excuse me.
I got this thread confused with another thread, where someone was looking for a very similar recommendation but didn't want the headphones to sound (as he put it) 'tinny'.

Hope you enjoy the new headphones.

Nope, you got the right thread here

I stated I didn't want them too tinny in my first post. I said that because I've heard headphones that are extremely tinny and I didn't like that too much.

i say you get a used pair of 555s and call it a day =)

Not tinny at all, not overall bassey....something in between....also, they pretty easy to push and they will sound great out of a PC.

They were my first headphone....paired up with a small cmoy they just sounded great for my first can.

If not, then i would save some cash and buy a pair of KSC75 and a small CMOY. The KSC75 will cost around 15$, use the extra money left over and buy a small CMOY to go with it. I think that this will give you the best bang for the buck.

I have a question about burn in. I've had my 80's playing on my ipod for about 15 hours now at what I would consider a medium volume on my ears.

How do I know when loud is too loud? I don't want to damage headphones of this price. I usually play my headphones just about full on my iPod, is that safe?

If loudness is a real concern, and it should be, just shove an SPL meter in the headphones when they are playing.
Some people would recommend listening at 75dB or less for safe extended listening.

Another thing: "full on my ipod" is meaningless. It depends on how sensitive the headphones are. Some headphones will be average volume at full on an ipod. Other headphones will blow your ears off at full volume.

Oh ok, thanks. I figured the "full on the ipod" wouldn't mean much but I thought I'd just throw that out there. I might have to get one of those meters.

Hey guys. After some testing in the store yesterday, I splurged for the SR80's. I didn't think I would ever be spending $95 on headphones, but these definitely are worth it.

IMO these head phones sound amazing. All of my music has another level of depth to it, and the clarity is just amazing. I hear some things I've never heard before in a some songs. In some cases I don't like the clarity because I hear static and such in my older songs

It just amazes me how I can now easily pick each instrument out and hear it in such great definition.

The 2 main reasons I chose the 80s over the 60 were because I preferred the overall sound on the 80's (mostly because of the bass) and $15 isn't that much of a difference.

overall these headphones are really great IMO. Now I might have to go about getting an amp and some other equipment. I'd love to hear these on a good amp.

Right on! Upgraditis will be affecting you in the near future.
