Best bass-head open back headphones

Abyss. Done. HE-6 on a budget.
I thought Abyss is a bit over-rated. It's good, but it's not crazy good. There's a lot of space within the cup, so it causes sound to be a bit diffuse, which a bit of a minus for me. I prefer focused sounds, which makes it seem more defined and resolved. Diffuse breaks up the imaging. Imaging wasn't great. Maybe the amping wasn't great. Dunno.

I'm not sure if you're set on a particular price range, but the Fostex Dekoni Blue (Semi-Open) have great bass, especially with the Dekoni Hybrid Sheepskin Earpads. Running these out of my xDSD sounds great.

So you've never heard them but can say conclusively that the LCD2C has the best bass in that range, better than the very headphones you haven't even heard. Gotcha.
I am not just talking about bass. I have been researching, read and watched a lot of reviews. LCD2C came out on top.
Lot of headphones have great bass but LCD2C has great bass with very open soundstage without sacrificing the mids.
You name what other headphones have that quality and performance.
It ultimately comes down to preference rather which is better.
Whoever likes HD650s with better bass and soundstage, will love LCD2C.
Never heard that Elear has the better bass than the mighty LCD2C, I will be very pleased if I am proven wrong.
I sold the LCD2C because of the weight, will gladly buy Elear if it's better.

Used Hifiman HE-400 or HE-500 are among the ones with great bass extensions based on multiple articles I've read. Personally have the HE-500 and they can extend pretty low when needed with great quality as well.

I think the Philips X2 are also known for good bass impact, but extension I'm not so sure and you may need to read up on it.

Sorry, but the the 400 doesn't have much low bass. They have too much in the mid-bass and upper bass to try and make up for it. At best they are "fun".

I love the 500, and its got good bass, but its no match for the HE-6, HE6se, or many of the LCD's.

The LCD2C has some fine bass. Open soundstage w/o sacrificing the mids. Not 100% sure what that means but the LCD2C has a very rocky frequency response. Hammer in the bass, excessively absent upper mids, essentially no output over 10 kHz. Have a lot of personality and a lot of fans - but please - its colored and fun, not accurate. The bass is often overstated for what is on the recording. Fun for some. Annoyingly fatuous for others.

Never heard the Focal headphones but LCD2C is the best when it comes to bass quantity and quality in $1000 range.

Is this new prices or used too?

If used: HE-6, HE6se, Fostex 900 Mk2 can be considered - first two you need 6 wpc to drive them.

We are talking basshead here, you are missing the whole point. I am not saying they are the best headphones, it has its cons.
That BASS is absolute fun.
