hey fellas
what are some of your favorite band names? it could just be the name of the band that you like, or it could be the way the name fits the bands music...

mine would be

THE GRATEFUL DEAD (fits the music, lyrics, and overall message of the band perfectly)

THE TALKING HEADS - this one fits thier music perfectly too. when i listen to their music i always picture robotic dolls moving their heads back and forth

IRON & WINE - i dont know what it means, but its beautiful

ESPERS - ooooooohh. fits the music so well. glowing warmth inside an earthy dark hole sheltered from the cool, firefly filled night air of the deep, wet forest outside.

ARCADE FIRE -

PHISH

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND

THE ANIMAL LIBERATION ORCHESTRA - their music sucks, but its a cool band name

Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark

Jesus and Mary Chain (always had some funny associations in my mind)

Just off the top of my head... I like both the sound & names of a lot of 80s groups... Simple Minds, ABC, Depeche Mode, etc...

The Chieftains -- rugged and regal. I doubt I'd still be so attached to them had they named themselves, as Paddy Moloney contemplated at first, The Quare Fellows.

Channel Light Vessel -- sadly this wonderful group (Roger Eno, Kate St John, Laaraji, Bill Nelson) evaporated after just two albums. While they have their own story for this name, I just think it is a perfect verbal counterpart to their luminous, fey music.

The Whistlebinkies: the allusion is to vagrant beggars playing tin whistles sitting on a "bink" (or bench); La Bottine Souriante (a Canadian Celtic-salsa fusion group whose name literally means "The Smiling Boot": when you wear a pair of shoes long enough it will "smile" at you) -- these names say you can have fun even if you're penniless.

Love Spirals Downwards -- isn't everything?

Anus, Rectum & The Feces (Local punk band from early 80s. The music is even more tasteless than the name might lead you to believe.

)
Dirty Blonde (Local metal band ~90 or so.)
The Sugarcubes (The name describes her voice and much of the music to my ears.)
Iron Maiden
Sludge Plow (Slow, metal with tuned down guitar riffs - think Iron Man by Black Sabath. The name is perfect.)
