Best audiophile metal and rock albums

Undoubtedly a great album, but it's often been criticized for being a bass-light mix on the original master and I tend to agree; I'm still waiting for a remaster with added bass! Incidently, this was the first post-Cliff album - it's Jason Newsted on bass.

On youtube there's a "bass remix" avaliable

I dunno if it1s simply remixing or someone actually playing the lines over, it's called And Justice For Jason IMO ;b
here's a video from Loudwire  he's says two words about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBUT8HFjZ74

Yes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kqTcLwUYj8

It's the right idea, but you're then stuck with YouTube's sub-standard SQ and a slightly amateurish mix overall (albeit done with the best of intentions). It really needs a professional remaster and reissue IMO.

Cliff was a legend no doubt. I think the only bassist I prefer is Steve Harris. Newsted's up there though.

I'll have to look into him

I thought I'd chime in and mention a band I've just recently found out about: Vektor.  They have a couple albums out and one coming out soon I think.  Technical thrash metal, but with very decent production quality.  I've been jamming to them on my Centrance DACport Slim / XBA-A2 combo and they sound great!

I admit a lot of albums I like get trashed around here for not having enough dynamic range, but I think the following are some of my favorites:

Infestus - EX IST

Celeste - Misanthrope(s)

Falloch - This Island, Our Funeral

Coldworld - Melancholie2

Cities of the Plain - Where Our Homes Used to Be

Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster - Wires / Dream / Wires

Roundtable - Dread Marches under the Bloody Regalia

I know they'll get smacked down by more knowledgeable folk, but I like the punch to these, and the harrowing ethereal sound of Coldworld.

Regarding my #1, I was given access to a stream to the Baroness a few weeks back, Some have complained of compression, but by the time I got the FLAC files, I checked them out in Soundbooth and there was no brickwalling/clipping. The dynamic range is there, however producer Dave Fridmann is known for blown-out drum sounds and distortion, and there is a touch of the distortion. Sometimes I think I hear the snare drum rattling for a slightly live feel.

I'm having lots of fun listening to the Boston debut album, the production is stellar, a mix of raw garage rock and 70's progressive metal

Also I managed to get a remix by Steven Wilson (a.k.a. music genius) of Fragile by YES; OMG that bass playing and sound, drums dynamics and vocals are out of this world

Great suggestions all around .
Looking for powerfull vocals ,jorn/dio/johansson but with less compression ,more of a raw presentation.
Any good suggestions?

Do you like Mastodon? Check The Hunter

But listen right now to CLUTCH - from beale street to oblivion

Also Red Fang - Murder the mountains

both sounds are more Stoner Rock than your references, but it's worthy checking it out
