I have both the X2 and K712 Pro in hand. Comparing them is quite hard since the K712 is lagging behind in volume which makes the X2 sound more prominent.

The specs of my Schiit Stack don't entirely reflect the volume I'm getting out of the headphones

I have been gaming with Xonar DX sound card and modded M1060, no complain so far and I don't feel amplifier is needed for music or gaming.

The 712s are still acting up? You may want to exchange them. Schiit Magni should be easily power 712s.
