I'm a bit biased(due to my young age and inexperience), but i'll have to say:

Interpol-Turn on the Bright Lights
Bon Iver-For Emma, Forever Ago
Bloc Party- Silent Alarm
The Shins- Oh Inverted World
Panic at the Disco(surprisingly)- Pretty. Odd(if you think this is crazy, at least give it a listen)
Thats it for now. If I like these, what do people recommend to me?

My favorite album of the 2000's was Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - The Tyranny of Distance [2001].

Pitchfork honored his excellent follow-up LP "Hearts of Oak" with the number 59 spot on their Top 200 list and this only at 120, but I think The Tyranny is still his best.

Runners up:

Feist - Let it Die
Spoon- Girls Can Tell
Spoon - Kill the Moonlight
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - Hearts of Oak
Radiohead - Kid A
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker
Dntel - Life is Full of Possibilities
Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes

Hey, good to see another Ted Leo fan on here. I think The Tyranny of Distance might be my favorite of the decade too. But narrowing the decade down to two is far too difficult for me. Timorous Me is probably my favorite song of the decade also.

And I'm glad to see someone else agrees on Let It Die. I wonder if people aren't giving it the credit it deserves because of the amount of covers on it.

I'm giving this thread one last bump, now that the decade of 00 actually has ended and all.

I know the title says 'best', and I somehow regret using it in this context. 'Favourite', as several posters have used, suits my original intention of this thread better; what are the most preferred albums of the 00's on Head-Fi?
This I thought would produce an extensive list of truly magnificent contemporary music, a bucketfull of only the sweetest cherries of the crop, and in the same time showing off the rough demographics of musical preferences here in our community. And a success I believe it has been.

So one last go at this, post your two favourite albums of the past decade, and have a go at some of the excellent suggestions already offered.
Still only one admission per user, how ever, any roughly on-topic ponderings are naturally welcome whether you have done your submission or not.

Is that in order of preference?
I'll give 'Turn On…' 2pts and 'For Emma…' 1pt unless you object.

Wops ... sorry. It's so hard to shrink it down to just A best and a runner-up.

I'd say:

Winner: Lateralus - Tool (2001)
Runner(s)-Up (tie): Blackwater Park- Opeth (2001) and In Absentia - Porcupine Tree (2002)
