From what I've noticed, staff are usually long time, respected members who've contributed to the forum greatly in some way. And hot redheads. 

Who said anything about respectability?

That aside, mods and admins are usually added when more are needed.

People are picked by the existing team and are discussed by everyone before being added to the staff. Most of us have been here for awhile and have attended several meets to get to know everyone. I've met all the others, save Currawong, but I'd love to meet him. The team ranges in age from late 30s on up. Though I'm not sure what Boomana's age is, I'll guess late twenties.

Then there's the initiation ritual, but Jude asked me not to talk about it.
