Batman Begins

i'll be the wet rag for this thread... i didn't really like it.

i was unimpressed by the storyline...
i was REALLY unimpressed by the train climax.
i was REPELLED by katie holmes and her lousy acting.
i was BORED by the excessive length and unnecessary exposition (like i was too dumb to figure the plot and motives out all by my li'l self.)

making dark, noirish movies is like, so 10 years ago. try Dark City for a moody sci-fi movie that this one only wished it could be.

I'll second this...for that matter, I don't remember the last time I saw a movie that was this good. It's been a while.

Initially, I was a bit let down when they chose Christian Bale. I just couldn't see the guy who played Patrick Bateman in American Psycho making it work. I was wrong, of course...just enough of the smart-ass that he seems to play so well crept through, and he's apparently well suited for action-films. All in all, an excellent choice!!

I also really enjoyed Michael Caine's role in this flick. I've always liked him, though my favorite role of his has to be Lawrence Jamesson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. At any rate, he did a great job in this movie.

Morgan Freeman was also well suited for one of the more interesting relatively minor supporting roles as the head of Wayne Industries' military R&D lab. I don't remember the last time I saw him in something with such a bit part...maybe as the judge in Bonfire of the Vanities??

Can't quite figure out whether I care for Katie Holmes in this movie. She doesn't seem quite right to play a tough but principled District Attorney. I don't know who to replace her with, however...and there's something about that girl-next-door idealism that somehow works (if not perfectly). The thing I can't quite reconcile is that she's effectively Mrs. Tom Cruise.

And finally, kudos to Rutger Hauer for his portrayal of the scheming corporate suit in charge of the Wayne empire. Just a touch of the old Wolfgar makes it to the surface.

I bought the DVD two weeks ago, and I'll bet I've watched it at least 10 times since. I don't typically run right out and buy newly released DVD's - the only other one was Miracle - but this was an exception. I couldn't wait to see it again!! I keep promising a buddy that he can borrow it when I'm finished, but I think he'll probably buy his own if I keep him waiting much longer.

Anybody heard any rumblings about whether they're going to milk this franchise for a sequal?? Sort of seemed like they were setting up to do so. Though I've got to say, Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker in the first Michael Keaton Batman flicks will be hard to beat.

I really liked the first one with Michael Keaton as well, but the rest of them suck... Batman Begins, however, was great. They did an amazing job. I loved Morgan Freeman's character and have always been a fan of Michael Caine. The DVD has a funny 'Tank Man' skit on it that everyone should watch. "Cursa you, Tanka man!"

As to what Adam West is doing... apparently making BAD B-rated movies. I saw him in this crappy vampire movie where he played 'Boondoggie' - a surfer by day, vampire hunter by night.

LOL, I didn't realize that. I'll have to listen more closely the next time FG comes on.

I also thought the movie sucked.
Compared to other movies? It did.

=\

Movie of the year? Hardly. It was really frustrating to watch this movie for me. I really did not think it was good at all.

I didn't get the train scene, either. If the device is supposed to heat up the water everywhere it passes, why doesn't it cause Batman and scary Mr. Scarecrowman to dehydrate and die? It's stupid. Sorry, but I have more brain cells than that to be entertained by this movie.
