I hear what you're saying but you cut this thing in half and it still has tremendous power supply/cleaning with 4 chips and DSP. The $2000 Bryston DAC is a 2 chip DAC. Not that more chips equals better sound necessarily but......just check the internals and see.

I think that most people in the " Extreme High End" of audio tend to default to sources other than Digtal files. Vinyl,Tape,SACD, etc. So DACs would be less used in the >2K range
