Great to know about the Topping, Thank You, As I age mid 50 and i swear my hearing is going a bit, I tend to like warmer smoother sound, not bright highs and sterile mids...

Thanks for the Feedback, Very much appreciated... Scott.

Awesome, Mojo2 is about $1100 here in NZ, alittle more than I was hoping to spend, But if its worth the difference then I'll hunt around, the mojo2 is Dac/Amp combo, I guess this doesn't matter ???? Sorry new to headphone audio here... not an audiophile guy, just love good sounding music....

Cheers Scott.
Yeah. It’s MSRP here in Singapore is SGD899 though the shops here usually sell below the MSRP. Mojo2 really punch above it’s price point. It’s on par with cayin n7, shanling m9+ sq wise. Chord DAC sound the best when fed via optical. USB is the worst.

Looking at the Mojo2, I'll connect from my Laptop, Mainly my source, via Qobuz, so USB to USB, then from Mojo2 to Bakoon, 3.5 to RCA's if this is the case the interconnect cable any suggestions there ???

Cheers, Scott.

I mean usb still works and sounds good. It’s just that optical sounds even better.

Resurrecting this thread to hopefully get more impressions on the HDA-5520mk2 vs HDA-5230mk2, if anyone's heard both!

I'm in the same boat. I've been corresponding with a distributor in Japan about the differences. His view is the HDA-5230mk2 is the better amp. His summary (in his words - not mine):
  • Material of chassis of 5230 is better than 5220
  • The power and current output are different. 5230 is similar to high end 5210mk4
  • 5220 requires 12 batteries to work. On the other side, 5230 requires only 5V mobile battery( Some batteries seem to be compatible with the battery and some batteries may cause poor sound quality, so I suggest you try a few.) or DC cable
  • As a manufacture, the maximum output wanted to be seen around 600Ω of load resistance, and the 5230 is much larger than the 5220. [TAIPAN254 NOTE: I THINK HE IS REFERRING TO OUTPUT POWER]
This means that the output voltage is higher, which is especially useful for planar headphones with low sensitivity, and the 30~200Ω range also has a different sound richness beyond the numbers.
Signal noise levels are also significantly better overall for the 5230 compared to the 5220.

As for output gain, the 5220 is designed for use with units that do not have line outputs, such as smartphones, while the 5230 is designed for connection to audio equipment with line outputs.
