I have my music on my main PC, backed up to a second file server, and of course the original CDs.

I selected "2" since I have it in 3 places

Primary Media Hard Drive (500GB Seagate SATA Internal)
External Backup Hard Drive (250GB Maxtor IDE)
iPod

And, of course, original CDs/Vinyl for the chunk of it that's legit (which is an ever-increasing portion as I buy more media and attempt to trim the library)

i just keep all the music on my computer.. i have plenty of HD space. I certainly wouldn't keep things I don't want to use on my Ipod.. I'm non my 5th now after random hard drive deaths and other issues claimed several.

Blimey, that's a lot. I've only got 1000 or so CDs. I've ripped and backed 'em up to one external hard drive per format: to Wav, MP3 (VBR, 320kbps CBR and 192k) and ATRAC 3+ 352k. I'm also thinking about making FLAC versions, but I really ought to get a life first...

Just drag the entire WAV library into foobar, start a batch covert with foobar2000 (you can even tell it what directory structure you want the converted files saved in) and walk away from your computer for a day or two.

Cheers. Trouble is, the Wav collection is probably the least complete, less than half done. MP3's are just about there, though, took an age titling, normalising and trimming. I'm not sure if I'll get round to the Wavs before I die..

My CD's -> ripped to a File Server -> backed up to an external.

Technically 2 for me,
CDs at home (original)
Rips on the comptuer at home
and the copy of the rips on my external at school

but all in all, I don't really see the copy on my external as a "backup" per say since I just pick good brands of hard drives for my primary rip copy storage at home. (essentially avoid maxtor... I've had 4 maxtor related hard drive failures. Seagate... 0, WD... 0)

But that's just me, I've had friends who never had problems with maxtor... maybe it's just my luck.

Primary 80gb on my laptop
50gb of that is stored on DVD's (old backup strategy)
120gb of additional flac on an external hard drive
all 200gb on my primary external hard drive
all 200gb backed up onto my parent's computer
all 200gb backed up onto my friend's media server
60gb of my favorite flac on an old IDE external
my 40gb of mp3 on an old 4200rpm IDE drive on a shelf in my closet

What is that? 4-5 discreet backups?
