There wasnt a thread already. I think all the Austrian Audio headphone models could manage with just one thread if mods want to organize. All the models apparently use the exact same driver anyways.

The Hi-X15 is the cheapest model at $120, but you get the same driver as the rest. The X15 is the cheapest looking from cups to headband, smallest cups. Cable disconnects luckily. The totl model Hi- 65 is the only open back version. From the few impressions I could find the X65 is the only one that sounds close to neutral. The X15 is bright, moreso than Beyer. And like Beyer it all sounds pretty clean. Transients are better in comparison from what I recall. Just initial impressions.

Pads are hybrids. Nice touch.

Clamp is medium, and isolation is good.

Can I ask for your impressions on the X15?
I was looking for a closed back in this budget with good tonality. Had my eyes on the AKG K361, and I actually liked the tuning when I tried a friend's unit. Wanted to see if this is a better alternative to the K361 before putting the order.

I have used the DT 770 before, which I don't like the mids of. Too behind the music for my taste, that's primarily why the harman target(nearly) of the k361 with its full bodied vocals really standout to me.

Hi-X15 had an awful tone unfortunately, similar response as DT770 pro. I couldnt stand more than 15min so couldnt assess much else.

AKG 371, sounds muuuch more neutral, slightly metallic but totally bearable. The build quality was bad. Very creaky, but Ive read others having fine experiences. Might be worth a try.

Thanks so much for the input, I have already tested the k361 and really like the tonality. Will probably go for it

So I’m playing around with mixing headphones to DJ with. I’m fond of the AKG k371 and Sennheiser HD25. The VModa M100 is cool and fun but it’s not neutral etc.

Preface aside, I tried the X-15 hoping for some Vienna magic. I was deeply disappointed with the tuning.

To elaborate: these things sound like an exaggerated “W” that’s treble emphasized. They aren’t pleasant.

That said, the hi excursion driver lives up to the punchy promise. If these things were better tuned, they’d probably be a keeper. I just can’t imagine what the problem with tuning is for the ex AKG team but AA has a struggles with tuning theme online. I’m sad to add to the mix but it is important to share.

I recommend the AKG alternative. Tuning is the most important factor to nail on a headphone. Austrian Audio has a good driver technology but failed to execute the most important thing. Tuning.

X-15 is being returned.

Just a question, more people mentions these need a brake-in period. Did you guys allow for 40-60 hours of brake-in ?
I did 30ish but gave up on it. Some articles said 200 but I’m just not committed because. Imho, it’s not a tuning that will change drastically enough after a long break in.

It’s literally just bad, imho.
