Just hit about 200 hours with Taurus Mk II and must say it has blown the socks off my understanding of how good things can sound.

Anyone on here got the Taurus + vega with the LCD 3s ? Im interested in upgrading from my Current Schitt Gungnir.

Yes, it's sounds excellent. That was my main phone for months. On a whim, I tried the HD800's with the Taurus and actually liked them just as much of more. Mainly due to the comfort factor, but both sound great with the amp/vega.

Do u find the LCD3 with the Vega and Taurus warm?
I like warm yet revealing sound.

I am not quite sure why some users describe Taurus as dry and cold. What does that mean?

Helo,

I didn't understand Tyll comment about the Taurus, he said that it has a lot of cross talk. What does that mean? Is this good or bad? Is this something that I should consider before buying the Taurus?

How is the Taurus with sensitive phones? Is there hiss or humm?

Thanks

I ordered the Taurus Mk2 and it should arrive today. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up from the UPS store before it closes today. This should be the highest end amp that I will own (definitely the most expensive) and hopefully it meets my expectations of it. I'll be pairing these with my HE-560 mostly.

I won't be getting my balanced cable until next week but it seems like this amp plays nicely regardless of SE or balanced.

It will also sound good with ur CIEM too!

I probably don't deserve my ciem. I only use it with my phone and I know it's capable of so much more. I've paired it with some better systems I've had in the past and it sounds pretty amazing. My primary use won't be with the ciem but I could try it in situations where isolation at home would be nice.

Edit: I picked up the amp :) Unfortunately, my plan to put it on my desk isn't going to work so I'll need to use my rack again. Also that vega dac in the FS forums is really tempting.

It's been months since I've heard the combo, but from memory I think it's very balanced. Definitely revealing, if your source is, and more towards the neutral/warm side.

Dry and cold doesn't apply to the Taurus in my experience, but every headphone is a bit different. I guess they mean that it's lacking a lushness and maybe is bright, but I don't find that to be the case. Perhaps the source they were using is not up the the task and they were hearing downstream problems. I'm feeding my Taurus with the balanced outputs of my Vega DAC.

I have an issue with bright sound and this is why I love the LCD3 which is warm but still detailed.
My only concern of Taurus is the brightness or lack of musicality. I will use the Vega as a source. I love full bodied sound but not boomy!

Is there a significant difference between the balanced and unbalanced output from the Vega?

The Vega/Taurus combo using balanced inputs/outputs is warm, musical, and very dynamic. I think you will be very pleased with the combo.

I have not done a comparison between the outputs, but I understand there is a difference. For one, I think the power output changes slightly and I believe balanced uses the ORFEO modules and the single ended does not. I have always used the balanced outputs with my phones.

My understanding that the balanced has extra 6 or 4 in gain compared to unbalanced. So the question is, what if I increase the volume while using unbalanced? Is this will match the effect of balanced?

With the single ended headphone output there will be no sound if you choose the balanced output.

No. As I said the power output, impedance, and output module all change. It's not so simple as just turning up/down the volume. The 2 different output will drive headphones differently, it's up to you to pick the one your prefer.

I believe the impedance also changes which will affect how the headphones are driven.

Yes i find with the SE you have to turn the dial up a bit more on BAL i listen with the LCD 3 at about 9 o'clock but the SE is about 11 o'clock

From my experience with the Taurus MK II is very musical, Dynamic and tends to be on the Warm / Neutral side. I upgraded from the Mjolnir which I found to be a bit to bright and am loving the Taurus MK II with LCD 3's so far (about 200 hours in) it was a bit "Cold" sounding when it first arrived but this only lasted a few hours.
