Aune S17 pro

Hi everyone, can you please guide me regarding pairing the S17 with an R2R DAC? I plan to pair it with a Shanling DAC EH2 R2R. I read in the thread that the S17 had good synergy with the Ares, I hope to have the same luck.
In the specs EH2 will be quite powerful on its own amp 🤔 4300mW@32ohm that's a lot! I don't think that it will sound noticeably different from the FiiO K11 R2R regarding only its DAC section, there are the same 0.1% low precision resistors used as in K11 R2R. Only the amp is much more powerful, so this may explain the price difference from K11R2R.

I was using OpenHeart 16 core xlr with my Audeze and HiFiMan hp's. Amp temp using 100ma setting would get to 67 fairly quickly.
When Koala Cables had a sale I gave one of their xlr cables a try and amp ran 6-8° cooler.

The topic seem to be definitely stuck on the subject of temperature. It's seems to me that Aune has shoot themselves in the foot.
It would have been perfectly fine to set the amp on 50ma without advertising about a "turbo mode".

In a blind test, i'm totally unable to detect if the amp is set to 50ma or 100ma with an og utopia.

Yes, Aune underestimated how readily audionuts can turn molehills into mountains.

Even at its warmest I can pick the S17 up with my bare hands.
I used to run Doge 211 monoblocks, now that was some serious heat.

Yes - comparing to tube amps it is not worth even mention and espec. because solution is easy - just find some good stable laptop stand with silent fan (there are many around and very affordable...Long time ago i have some Magnum monoblocks which are AB class but combination of powerfull mosfets (2 x 130 w at 8 ohm i think) and very small heatsinks raise temp. very high i- i did not measure but i could not lay my hand there and on Aune i still do. And i burn my hand on my tube amp when i touch it (no intention -just a mistake) one of tubes...so this topic become boring and there are many ways to deal it just it is somewhere on previous 212 pages....

I'm very satisfied with this amp and for how much it cost . I have a fan under the Chasis and it gets to 46 degrees when listening. I'm using a hifiman he1000se.

imho, the S17 is stellar. Build like a tank, sounds devine and deserves all the praise it can get.
As i´ve said before, short time after my first listen to the s17(Dire Straits- Sultans of Swing 22/Rem), will never forget this moment btw.,:gs1000smile: i gladly sold my phonitor xe and vio v280fe and til today i have no regrets.
I know Topping and SMSL has their loyal fanbase, so let me put it this way - both don't even play at the same league and not even close to spl- and violectric amps.

Can you describe the sound differences between the S17 and the Phonitor XE?

After 4h of use it’s at 67c, using an XLR forzaworks cable and HE1000v2, room temperature is 24c now, I think everything that gravitate around the amp can influence the temperature dissipation, I mean RCA/XLR cables, HP cable, HP impedance and obviously room temperature, as different combinations of cables/HPs are producing different temperatures, so far I haven’t crossed the 69c but it’s close now and it will be annoying changing to 50ma

Wanted to share my solution for the temp issue, got a slim noctua fan ,some metal feet and a usb to fan connector adapter that has a switch from ali express.
Stuck the feet and the fan to the bottom and the switch to the back with double sided tape, the fan comes with a low noise and an ultra low noise adapters (they lower the RPM of the fan), im using the low noise one at the moment and the fan is basically silent, the results are as follows:
In my 21-23C room using XLR, High gain and 100ma on my DCA E3s the amp gets to around 66C, when i switch the fan on, after about 20 minutes it goes down to 55C and stays there, i bet if i didnt use any of the low noise adapters id shave a few more degrees but i dont really see the need.

(for some reason the links only work if i use middle mouse to open a new tab)
