"High End" cars are just as pointless as 10K DACs. That was exactly my point.
Let’s just agree different people have different priorities, standards and finances.

I think it’s different for audio though. Some people listen to music all day (myself included), so spending a car’s worth of money could be justified.

I basically only use my car to go to stores. It gets me from point a to b. Spending a lot for a car makes no sense to me. I’m in it every other day for like an hour at most (usually much less). Buying a new car would be a stupid purchase for me. But, buying a car’s worth of amps, dacs, and headphones makes more sense. I listen to music a lot more than I drive my car. 🤷‍♂️

Depends on how you define "high end" and "pointless", really. I own a new Honda Accord Hybrid Touring, which costs about $40K out the door. Show me another car with the same comfort, space, and amenities that gets 45+ mpg. Arbitrarily saying that spending more than a certain amount on a car, DAC, etc. is "pointless" strikes me as uninformed.

Silly to worry about what other people spend their money on.

Live within your means.

Do you.

I need someone to convince me not to pull the trigger to buy HMS!!!:money_with_wings::moneybag::L3000:
I will do the opposite. It doesn't really upscale, but cause weird artifact sounds. Did you expect it to upscale way beyond what we can hear? You like to pay $5k for something that tries to convince you it does something. Or you can be smarter.

Model 3. What is mpg? :)

Higher. It's also more expensive, has less interior space, and less range.

My main point was that it's not "pointless" to spend more than $20k on a car. There are tangible and objective benefits to cars priced higher than that over cars priced less.

I don't know why we are arguing about car prices. It is WAY more common (read mainstream) to spend 30k+ on a car, than on a hifi system. Even if your car is a bespoke Bugatti and you paid 2 million for it, we audiophiles should be the last ones to judge. It is your money, enjoy having it and spending it as much as you like. Whatever floats your boat.

Obviously I will try it before deciding whether to buy it or not, and this has nothing to do with people's intelligence. It seems to me that the somewhat joking sense of this thread is being lost.

Personally I agree with his Statement that 10-20k is a good Place to stop for a car.

Although I agree on the 20k for a car, I'd say such thresholds depend on one's financial reach and priorities. Some folks wouldn't even consider a car below 50k, or a DAC that sells for less than 30k

Very true.

For both a simple rule applies: Never spend more than you can comfortably afford.

Who are you to tell me to be financially responsible?! My mom?! Just kidding :)
Yes, clean your room son, or no new audio toys anymore!
