I recently added an Audioengine A5/S8 near field listening set up to my headphone rig and have loved the sound I am hearing. Wow! It's really hard to understand how this company can make money at this price point when considering how well made and packaged these speakers are?
The one thing to be expected, that was not of matching quality, were the speaker cables and RCA/mini interconnects that came packaged with the A5/S8 speakers. Sure, the included wire will make sound, but I've become a total cable nut over the years on my gear and am firming planted in the camp of: Good Wire Does Make a Difference!
Since I purchased the speakers from Lee over at Cryo-parts, I asked if he could make some custom cables to go along with my Audioengine A5/S8's. While I'm not going to go into a full review (I really don't care to prove anything to cable bashers) let me just say the cables are not only beautiful but they take the "Engines" to another level of sonic clarity, impact, highs/mids/low as well as instrumental placement and imaging. Just stunningly good...
Lee could give more info. on the wire construction and termination used and the price point but the core wire was his custom DCT-UP-OCC! I don't even know if he will offer these, but I wanted to let Audioengine fans know about this potential uber option. Here are the cables he made for me:
