Audio Technica the master of WOOD

The W2002 has the nicest lacquer finish so far. I really miss my one of a kind W2002 with L3000 drivers that I sold shortly after I got the HD800. I didn’t even get to try them with a balanced amp when I sold it.

Does anyone remember that the L3000 Drivers actually sold for a short time in the public market through an asian hifi shop? I think the was price was 150$ for a matched pair if i remember right. Anyway Audio-Technica has run out of replacement drivers for the L3000 some time ago. Good luck to all L3000 owners. I wish i had mine back even with that risk. :)

Around $150. They should have not done that and only reserved the driver for the L3000.

The L3000 is a headphone I really wish I had a chance to hear.

I've heard the L3000 and regretted it. Weird tonality and bass overwhelms the rest of the frequencies.
That makes me feel better. 😀

That’s description of the Sony MDR-Z1R. To each his own.

The problem with some AT wing headphones is how fit affects the sound, hard to know the true potential of L3000 without having it, for example AD2000 lacks clarity , sounds wonky, and has wonky separation for my ears if I use it stock, the strong pressure plus thin pads with no depth at all ...
But if I wear the L cup on my right ear (reversed, lol) I get a different fit, clearer more airy sound and not as wonky, 2000x does not work with that since it does not even seal well when you use them "reversed"(ad2000 does for me)

I suspect W3000ANV and similar ones (That I don't have) have fit problems for some people, because some said that to him, the w3000anv drivers could have been from a 39usd headphone and that it was a disappointment

I also kind of have issues with w1000x, If I don't adjust them well they lose some bass and thickness in the sound, While A1000Z and A2000Z sounds almost the same when you move them on your head(in MY experience) ( of course if you do massive fit variations, they change the sound but it is way less intense change than with other headphones)

I disagree with the W3000 sounding bad. It sounds top class and really great to me. The sound is definitely not from cheap drivers.

And others say it sucks, lol

They sound really good and even better than Fostex to me. The bass is there in quantity but doesn’t bleed into the mid like the Fostex. It sounds even better with the upgraded Silver Dragin cable.

AD2000 (stock) is my favourite open back for vocals. I had no problems with the pads besides my ear touching the drivers. I wasn't a big fan of the W3000ANV, i think they went safe on that headphone. Nothing stands out. Probably the most okayish headphone i have heard :D

I Love my AD2000! I can't unhear the guitars/solos. I have some headphones, but, when there are guitars like in A Perfect Circle Mer De Noms I just want to hear that guitars, that sound... that level...

I've got 2 pairs, one stock the other I modded, put the right driver in the left cup and the left driver in the right ear cup and kept everything stock.
Audio-Technica sure was something back then when they released the L3000 and the AD2000.
To this day they haven't touch that sound anymore, heard the L5000, AD2000X and the ADX5000 and are of inferior quality/sound.
imo

I have no problems with my ears touching the drivers.

Really?
I don't have ADX5000 of L5000 but I'm sure those should be better technically.
Because I have compared both 2000x and ad2000 with same pads, and it's clear that ad2000x has a more clean sound, bass has more clarity, detail, cleaner, highs sound more Nuanced specually classical music instruments, 2000 bass somewhat sounds muddy sometimes in comparison, And I have done tons of Mods and pad changes to them, I have around 16 original Audio Technica pads of different models.

AD2000 has more clamp force, you get a more intimate and "emotional" sound than Stock ad2000x, but it is technically inferior .

Sound quality is sound quality, let's differentiate technicalities and the sound presentation you like.

AD2000 has a better driver than ad900x, but against AD2000X or A2000Z it has some problems, without even speaking of ADX5000 and L5000.

Yeah, I agree. The W5000 had a very bad fit. I was never able to get a full seal.

The L5000 has a bad fit too.

Pad changing helps. But some AT woodie cans are tough to get right.

The L3000 and older models had great fitting for me. No problems.

Yeah, I understand, these headphones went with the bright signatures and was not as musical as the older versions. Pad changing somewhat helps. But if you prefer technical, bright sound, than these are great.

To give an example of what's inside a woodie.
