Audio-Technica ATH-R70x - In-Depth Review & Impressions

If anyone is A/Bing pads and finds one that is both more comfortable and that doesn't change the sound signature please let me know!

Well the Audeze pads (on my AD1000x) are exquisitely comfortable, super soft and mold to my head. I had no problem with the Brainwavz but these are on another level. They are deep though and will effect the sound a little bit.

So i'm ABing the r70x and HD650 right now with this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uON3-K99XfU (find a better quality version if you can).

Both sound great and its hard to not just enjoy the song. But I keep wanting to go back the the r70x.
Some people have stated the 650 is warmer then then r70x, I disagree. But I must say warmer is always better to me.

I would say he HD650 is technically better and more resolving in the highs. But lacks bass compared to the r70x. As someone who enjoys bass more then treble this works well for me.

The hd650 is definitely more textured. But only as much as the r70x is more engaging.

Also the soundstage is wider on the r70x, and sounds more 'live'.

They are also more comfortable then hd 650, for me.

How old is the R70x if I may ask? Reason being the sound changed after 50hrs or so

So my R70x's came in and they sound amazing on my buddies Schiit Stack. Very pleased with the detail and the bass is way better than I expected it to be.

I'm still looking at a good amp/dac to power this sucker. I'm trying to keep it under $300 but I am also considering the JDS Element so I may be willing to go up to $350.

So far, I'm looking at the Aune X1s, the JDS 02+ODac Rev.2, and the JDS Element. I'm looking so a dac/amp all in one. I really love the Aune reviews and the price but I'm worried that it doesn't have enough power for the R70's because it only pushes 80mw at 300ohm.

Anyone have any recommendations for a dac/amp under $300? Is the Element worth going up to $350 for?

I use Fiio K5 amp with the Fiio X1 as source. The amplifier's power clearly enough for the R70x.
My iFi iCan nano mobile amp (150mW at 32 ohms) is enough for the R70x but more power is help to extend the lower bass region.
Fortunately not just the impedance is high at the R70x's but the sensitivity (99dB) also.

I use a LH Labs Geek Out 450 (450mW) DAC/Amp and I normally drive the R70 at Windows volume levels 21 or 31 out of 100.

For the price it's fantastic, I believe it to be a top tier mid-fi phone. Better than the k612 and probably same level a the k712 although a different tuning. Never heard the 600 but I put it on the same level as the hd650 and hd700, understanding that those two are very different in tuning. But to not get it out of proportion, it doesn't compete with the he560 or hd800.

Yeah compared to an HD600 which I used to have, this is much more balanced and the bass is certainly much clearer and tight.
However the mids of the HD600 are so lush that sometimes I miss it

Hello everyone, I'm new in the forum,
I'm going to buy a new headphone soon, and my choice is now oriented on these "cups" because of their neutrality, their tight and smooth bass and their soundstage. My question is if it would be the right headphone for me: I listen mainly to Classical music and EDM (in particular Tropical and Deep), but I don't dislike listening to other genres.
Another question, how do they compare to the Sennheiser HD650 (the second choice)?

PS: they will be used with a selfmade DAC and Amp

Thanks a lot and sorry for my language mistakes, I'm not a native speaker
