Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Discussion Thread

I honestly love the detailed sound and separation of MSR7 when I tried it in store, but ended up getting M2 bc it's much more comfortable ( I could wear it M for 10+ hours )

Should I exchange my M2 for MSR7?

If you're happy with the sound of the M2 then stay with it, especially if you like a warmer sound. The MSR7 is a colder, sharper sound which sounds more detailed but may be fatiguing over time for more sensitive ears.

Does anyone here know of good choices for velour earpads that don't lose so much bass? It's getting hotter where I live so I would prefer velour during the summer. I currently use the Sound Professional pads and really enjoy their open soundstage but I find the sub-bass to be lacking and the midbass feels a bit more bloated as a result. They don't cut off nearly as much bass on the M50x, because they wrap more tightly around the earcup. Therefore I need something that wraps more tightly around the earcup.

I don't know about yaxi stPad microfiber impression, will fit perfectly for MSR7, but I'm afraid will reduced bass so much

I like it, but I love the MSR7's sound more (from what I remembered). My concern is whether I could wear it for a long time due to the clamping force & as you said, the sharper sound.

I'm not really sure what type of sound is my preference, but I enjoyed sounds like Bowers & Wilkins C5 S2 and Klipsch X7i in the past. Do you happen to know what kind of sound signature those IEMs have?

You can bend the headband to season it to a looser, more comfy fit.

It will need to fit very tightly because the MSR7 earcups are smaller than the M50.

With SoundPro pads the best way I can describe the sound is like an AKG Q701 with clearer midrange and treble (I only tried the Q701 briefly though).

I don't really mind the clamping though after an hour or so it does exert some pressure.

I'm using stPad pleather, perfect fit for MSR7

Every MSR7 is made in China. Made in Japan only for high-end products, like IM03/04, W series and few high-end amp
Why mediocre? Which region make you disappointed? the bass quantity? high? soundstage?

now sound is improving,I think msr7 is not a pairing well with x5(narrow soundstage, less bass way less than hd280 and ex1,harsh highs).but when I connected to my vivo x5pro phone(inbuilt akm ak4375dac)msr7 is more musical sounding but with less seperation.may be I should wait for some more days.
And again I didnt encountered any comfort issues pointed out by some people in this thread and this is by far the most comfortable headphone I had ever used except the mdr1a I tried in a store.I streched the band when I got it.

Hi guys, my first post here. i went to buy ATH-MSR7 after read some great reviews on few threads. Initially the sound was harsh and piercing to my ear. I thought of new and allow some some times for burn-in. now is close to 4months. But some how not satisfied with the sound. felt like some bunch of sounds are missing, flat and dull, but hard to notice if you don't have chance to compare another good unit.i have even tried to pair with DACs like Oppo, Fiio, sound blaster E5, samsung S6 edge etc., still felt like missing something. don't feel like listen more than one song,  i don't know how to explain in words, may be warmness, transparency? i had a chance to compare a demo set in another audio shop, the difference is day and night, but i cannot tell the difference.
so i brought in the headset to ATH service centre and they measured and told me there is nothing wrong with it. Since i am unsatisfied, they helped to replace the driver unit. But due to no comparison headset in their centre, i got to bring homd and try, unfortunately, the audio quality is dull as before. They provided the measurement data to me, attached as below image:

can someone enlighten me is there something wrong with audio quality or matching issue ?

here is the frequency response curve for MSR7. is this normal?
