Hmm, I would call it nuetral. It only gives you what you give it. It can sound bright if the song and source etc... is bright. It will sound warm if the song etc... is warm. I consider the 64 audio u18t much "better don't feel like explaing details)" with layering, detail retrieval etc... but it costs literally 10 times more. But u18t isn't neutral or as revealing as the ath-e70 imho.

With the ath-e70 you simply get what you give. It can be sweet or very irritating depending on what you give it.

I see. I was just wondering if you have heard the im04? which one is bettr for female vocals?

Yeah the E70 doesn't have that pronounced upper mids that most AT gear would exhibit, on the other hand it makes it a warm unimpeding sound good for long listen tho.
Also, nice profile pic, Alicization, I'm excited to start watching it :)

I've never heard im04 however I would say female vocal is one of the weakness of E70 for me due to the flat/recess upper mid which make female vocal sound dull and distance.
Imho, the e70 just gives you what you give it.

So if the track and or your source has flat/recess upper mids, that's what you'll get with the e70. But, if everything is produced correctly and you have an excellent source, e70 is going to sound leaps and bounds better.

IMHO, e70 often gets blamed for doing exactly what it's created to do and what it does extremely well; and that is being a studio monitor for musicians. So if there's imperfections in the production, the e70 is extremely unforgiving.

On the other hand, the good thing is because it's a studio monitor, it reacts extremely well to eq. So you can get any sound you want, although eq isn't needed for the pure true to source sound.

Hi everyone,

I'm a little older now for these kind of stuff and developments, but I'm sure I can find some friends here to help me as much as they can.
I've been using ATH CK10 for about ten years. I've tried most of the universal IEM's from different brands at those times, but since then I've never had any chance to try out anything new.

Since I was very happy with the build and sound quality, mostly the sound signature of CK10, now I want something sound closer to it. So I guess ATH-IM02 is very close to CK10, but what about LS200is and E50? Actually I do not care much about naturality, but I really do care about treble: I want airy/sparkling highs. A little more bass would be appreciated, but it doesn't have to be V-shape.

I think LS200is sounds a bit warmer, which I wouldn't especially prefer. Under these circumstances, which one would you offer most? I listen to electronic music (mostly trance) and jazz stuff. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance friends.

I think for your preferences you should look at Ocharaku's offerings.
The ATH E series do not have the airy upper treble. You are right about the LS series, they come across as a tad warm (based on others' impressions). Nor are the CKR series so treble focused. From the very limited impressions on the CK2000ti, it seems they also don't fit your requirements.

(edit) I have the SD2 which is very similarly tuned to IM02, and they don't have the airy quality to the treble. They are very highly defined with good presence nonetheless. But, Airy is not how i would describe them.

Ocharaku FLAT4 would keep you happy, IMO.

Thanks for your idea mate but it triples the price tag of E50. Actually I can sacrifice a little from treble if I will pay 500 usd less. I know paying "big" for "small" differences though. Only I'm not sure if this is the one.

Any more suggestion?

KZ ZS6 ?? Has great treble, airy. Worth a shot, costs nothing in comparison!

Yeah, that looks cheap with crazy untamed treble. I really would like to try it because I was enjoying my time while many were saying CK10 is an unbearable-treble-monster. Though AT is really a king for me (I think I'm not alone on this idea?) about build quality and also on vocals, rings and electronic sound quality.

Mate, if you forget about "airy" trebles, how would you define mids and bass of E50? Or in overall? Is it closer to 'cold' or 'warm'? Because for me in CK10, although the trebles are crazy high, mids were in perfect amount and quality even if we cannot call them totally natural. Also I wouldn't say no to a little more and deep bass, thanks to CK10's double drivers with 'right' but 'few amount' of bass.

I haven't really owned an E50- from what i've read it's more warmer than bright. But i may be wrong. Another option for you is the Final Adagio V. I bought and returned this because it was exactly what you said 'unbearable-treble-monster'. The bass is really tight but present and punchy, with highs that are quite harsh (but super detailed). Maybe you want to give that a shot. They can be had for around <edit> boosted to 100 bucks now i see. good luck!

If I had enough budget, I wouldn't think a second and would buy E70 - aha and also if I had a strong and quality source for sure. Though I don't have enough time to chase such 'detail' in my life nowadays, so I bought E50. That'll be 'an all round option' while carrying it to anywhere, whatever I listen and whenever I plug it in something else - phone, pc or some 'not' magical music players. Thanks for your help mate!

Great! Give them some time as i suspect the difference will be significant compared to CK10. Also, do post your impressions here, with maybe a little A-B comparing to CK10. There is very little to read about E50s here. Enjoy music, ATH is always awesome :)

I really have a lot to say since I put ATH-E50 in my ears.

I don't think that I'm capable of making an in depth review but really want to say something about E50 which has fallen behind E40 and E70 review/comparison folk.

After the treble-monster CK10, and for a short time using of V-shaped AKG comes with Samsung Note 8, E50 can exactly be named as mid-centric iem. This was my first expression when I put these in my ear first and it was a bit 'disappointing'. Still when I put them after a while and press 'play', I feel the same, I will explain why I feel this way. Though this is not ALL of course.

I listen almost every kind of music, mostly trance, jazz and classical. I also like listening pop and acoustic from time to time, and I've tried with almost every genre so I think this would reflect what the characteristic of E50 is - at least for me.

Bass: I've spent 10 years with ATH-CK10 and it was a dual BA iem. E50 is half - single armature, but double the amount of bass! I'm not a bass-head, but really started to wish some more bass than CK10 had as years have passed. But I'm also not fan of uncontrollably bloating bass as some V-shaped dynamic iems have. I can easily say that CK10's bass response was very quick and right, now E50 does the same without losing control and mid-bass 'hump. Beside these, maybe it's not stretching, but a tad punchy when it's given in such way. Really fine. It is mostly enough for anyone who is not a bass-head like me but in some cases you wish you had some more maybe(?). But be sure, wishing more makes you an enthusiast of 'fun iem', so this one is not for you I think.

Mids: As I said above, for the first impression when you come out from another characteristic iem, it makes you feel like 'these mids are really forward'. But as you listen for minutes/hours I think your ears get used to its style and start not to think in this way. Yes, still it's a tad warm, especially when I compare it to analytic and cold mids of CK10 accompanied with airy trebles. But it is really really close to natural and very much detailed. Hence, my disappointment leaves its place to a listening joy. You can easily hear/recognise finger moves on guitar strings and piano, also excellent vocal details in every aspect. Splashes, coming closer or taking her/his head away from mic, stress on words etc. Sooo nice and also so hard to imagine how E70 would be much better on this. Even if I haven't listened to it, I can understand why they call it as a studio monitor king at that price level.

Treble: Not as much as airy and sparkling like CK10, it is there with right amount and detail. Due to its mid-centric character. E50 is way successful at lower treble compared to CK10, and by E50, I realized that my ears got tired of such 'almost sibilant crazy trebles' which gives pure satisfaction while listening to trance and cause 'hiss' sound constantly. Trebles of E50 are also not stretching up high as you understand, however it has a deeper stage than CK10. Again excellent cymbals, female vocals and other details. I really appreciate their success and love this way of Audio Technica.

All in all, this is a complete balanced iem with a tad forward mids, but not the warmest, also not far away from being analytical and cold. This may cause question marks in some folks' head. I'm just trying to make an another description of 'balanced', forgive me :) This is absolutely an unforgiving iem in means of source and record quality. While I'm listening to new releases (still depending on their recording materials) and electronic stuff, it's not a problem but if you are listening to some old records and if you hate hearing 'mistakes'... bye bye happiness :) Actually if the price was not an issue, this would have been my main reason why I avoid buying E70, though now I'm caught by E50. I really didn't expect to meet 'almost a complete studio monitor' at this price level.

If you are looking for some fun iem, stay away from these. But if you really want to listen to music as it comes out (or should I say 'in the way it is given to you'?), you should buy these. Especially jazz, acoustic, classical, instrumental lovers should do!

Apologizes in advance due to lack of information and grammar. I admit that it only reflects my own impressions in my very own and poor world of sound.
