Audio-GD Singularity 19
Jan 20, 2017 at 12:34 PM Post #16 of 285
No shipment notification from Audio-gd yet for my Singularity 19.  I'm guessing this means it won't ship until at least Feb 6th now.  Bummer.

Ugh. I'm the same boat then. Just ordered mine earlier this week.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the purpose of the HDMI input? Can the DAC be fed directly by a Blu Ray player? I know coax out of a Blu Ray player is limited to 16/48 or something like that but HDMI is not. Is this a bypass for that problem?

It's for the IIS (I2S) format.  The HDMI connector is not compatible with a standard signal from a blu-ray player or computer video card.  IIS can also be seen using an ethernet connector, but HDMI is the more common cable type.  I got it so that if I decide to get an external digital-to-digital converter (like the Singxer SU-1) I can convert my computers USB connection into IIS on the Singularity 19.

Got it. Did you replace the BNC with the HDMI?

Also, The C-2 you will be testing it with, is that the more recent 11th Anniversary Edition?

I replaced the RCA coax.  I'll be testing with the C-2 11th, and then I'll be moving it to the Wells Audio Milo for further testing and hopefully its permanent location if I like the way it sounds.  I want to get a feel for which pairs better with each amp.

I also received an email from Grace at Audio-gd the other day saying that the Singularity won't ship until Feb 10th.

I see you own a Yggy so a comparison to that DAC would be awesome as well since its pretty much the DAC king around here.

I am thinking to get this or the NOS 19.

Is this better than the NOS 19?

I reckon it would be more different than better. The NOS sound isn't for everybody and since the S-19 uses different DAC chip, there's a good chance that the sound signature is different. We need actual impressions to understand the sound of the S-19.

Yeah I think so too.

Since I do not get to audition any of them nor I have auditioned any other NOS or R2R/multibit before, the S-19 is probably the safer choice because it has like 4 options 8x, 4x ,2x and NOS sampling.

The s-19 is also about 200 dollars cheaper.

Well the thing is :

The S-19 (0.005) has much higher THD than NOS 19 (0.0008) and M-7 (0.0005)

I am no expert but it looks like the S-19 has pretty high noise level at lower frequencies compared to NOS-19 and M-7?

The NOS-19 starts to rolls off around 2.5khz?

Both NOS-19 and M-7 uses bur-brown DAC and I have not heard of the new DA-M1 DAC.

Btw, did you guys opted for the 2x dac or 4x dac?

Expected ship date is Feb 10, then there's travel time and customs.

Cool, looking forward to the listening impressions, particularly compared to the DAC-19.
