Remember Rob said the Phoenix was merely on the Concerto's level via single ended-but was a clear step above when going balanced. Hope you have some balanced 'phones!

I have a balnced cable comiong for the HD800 ad I tried the HE500 I am holding for the new owner balanced. Its still hard and grainy but not 300 hrs on them yet or close to having that and trying to compare this amp to amyps that are two or three times the cost is not fair either. The HD800 will let you know how good or bad a componet is as its that revealing.

I wasn't comparing it to those other amps. My point was that the AGD Phoenix improved a good deal going balanced, so I would assume the NFB6 would improve via balanced as well. Hope it competes well against others in it's price bracket.

Its going to compete with other 400.00 and single  ended its sound better than a few days  ago. Not asa hard and maybe more hours will make that better.  The HD800 balanced  and single ended will be included in the review. It sounds nice as I am listening to it with the AKG550 now and its keep me interested more as it burns in bit in three or four weeks i will know how good it is or isnt as its way too early now to give a fair impression. I am not sure how many HD800 owners would use this amp and I think they would be looking at the phoneix or Master series and tube amps. I can see AKG ad Denon owners and mid tier beyer owners using this amp but more so on a single ended basis

That's what the C2.2 is for. Please hold comments until you have sufficient hours on it and are listening in balanced mode- that it what it was made for. Your D7000 should sound excellent with it (as it does with my 10SE and Master-5).

I am sure the D7K will sound good with it but its at Denon now getting the screws replaced on the headband but I did listen balanced with the hE500 and we are approacking almost 200 hrs. so i cant imagine it needing more burn in but burn in is what its getting. I will make no more comment until my review is posted in about a month,.

Any impressions on pairing it with AKG cans?  The power output looks good for high current hungry cans like the K601..

K702 worked really fine on C2.1 , remember outpower on specification are for balanced output , if your K601 is not balanced it's 4x time less ^^ .

Kinda off-topic but how do you find your nfb17.2 compare to your previous nfb2.1? :p

I am not missing my NFB-2 , digital filters on front panel are much more convenient (but i am still using the same one as on NFB-2 ...) , custom drivers for TE8802 are great , TE7702 with standard windows USB audio drivers had some glitch in wasapi , like littles lags when play / stop or seek in a trak (nothing to worrie ) but here it's glitch less .

Soundwise well ... i had to sold my NFB-2 before guetting NFB-17.2 , but  in RCA with the same filters by memory both seams nearly indentical or very close at least .
I think that in RCA mode , NFB-17 is somewhat beetwen NFB-3 and NFB-2 , it was not easy to distingish both soo with NFB-17.2 it's even harder .

The point is that NFB-17.2 is balanced , and combo NFB-17 + Auditor + T1 => Wonders . I could have kept my NFB-2 but to maximise my Auditor i sold it and go with NFB-17.2 .( I would like to have done a direct comparison but i found a buyer you couldn't wait

and he offered me a local pick up soo ...) .

According to Kingwa, NFB-6's single ended power output is same as NFB-5, which is:

3500mW/25 ohm
1800mW/50 ohm
900mW/100 ohm
300mW/300 ohm
150mW/600 ohm

That's less than the C-2.2 (not sure if similar to C-2.1)... Will miss out a lot if not using balanced.

C2.1  dhttp://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/C-2new/C2.1EN.htm

62 ohm: 1000MW
100 ohm: 1000MW
300ohm : 330MW
600 ohm: 165MW

Was not very far with unbalanced connection 4 time less powerfull than balanced . But are you sure that your K601 need soo much MW ? , if your planing to go unbalanced C2.2 would be a better choice (staying with A-GD) .

Quick update. I have a balnced HD800 cable comong from Norse and I purchased a OPPO BDP95 so I will have a balanced source also. The review will be done all balanced and the other headphones besides the HD800 will remain single ended. More in about three weeks

I'm also waiting on a 17.2 to be made/shipped, will be pairing it up with a set of emotiva pro 5s/optoma HD33 (hoping they'll fill my living room temporarily while i save up for a proper 5.1/7.1 set and know they'll then make a great computer speaker combo when that fabeled day arrives.

Don't have balanced ends on my v4 grado magnums, but will be sure to post my thoughts on how the NFB 17.2 makes my HTPC flacs sound through the emotiva 5s (after proper burn in of course)
