Ok, both are i2s. Which application use hdmi connection actually ?

HDMI I2S audio is not compatible with regular HDMI like from a Blu-Ray player.   It is called "HDMI I2S" because it borrows the same physical interface (chips, cables, connectors) as the home entertainment variety.  But the signals on the wires are much different and incompatible.

And RJ45 I2S and HDMI I2S format the data the same on the cable but physically are not compatible with each other.  "HDMI I2S" uses LVDS balanced signals while RJ45 uses single ended TTL.

Does anyone know the what the HDMI receiver chip on the Audio-gd I2S mod is?  Mine has the identifying info scratched out for some reason.

My chip is scratched as well but could partially read the top after wetting with alcohol and using a microscope.  It may be a TI SN65LVDS048A but can definitely read "LVDS048A" on the 2nd line.   Functionally, looks correct for the circuit.

Thanks.  You did better than me.  All I got was the "i" in the TI logo.  Perhaps Audio-gd has improved their IC scraping technique :)

Hi all
Get my M7 yesterday
Right out of the box it's an improovement from my Refrence9
One question : how do you consider the original usb output?
I was using the Gustard DI with my old Dac so i was wondering if it's could be better to keep it with the M7...
In that way i was also considering the MX-U8

Hi Flosa,

I suppose you mean "USB INPUT"?

Just listen to it and find out yourself, "probably" your Gustard DI sounds better, and yes, MX-U8 does indeed sound better than Gustard.

Yes sorry i was talking about "input" !!
Well i've tried with , i was limited to 24-48 with Jriver and Foobar
I'm using the Ultraviolet cable
I'm using the newest drivers (version2) , trying to "see" in my pc setting...i didn't see so i put again the Gustard  and magic it's ok now , up to 192!!
Strange things seem to happen sometimes with the USB-32 firmware
So i've decieded not to use it
I was thinking about buying the Melodious MX-U8 to compare with the U12

Trying to get my Squeezebox Touch to connect with the USB32 was always problematic, so I switched to Touch into Gustard into M7 BNC and I am happy and there are no problems except that the BNC only works up to 96. I prefer the sound of the Gustard/ M7 BNC combo. At some point I will try DACLadders Gustard mod to get the HDMI I2S working properly as well.

Read here in this thread in the silence :)
And now I bought an Master 7 with M2Tech Evo I2S adaptor. What a gret upgrade from AudioGD Sa 1.32, The master 7 sounds huge.

I am using coax from Cd player to the dac, and found that the bnc input sounds more chill and laid back than the coax rca input,, someone tried to use different inputs from the same source? :)

I2S is a more direct D/A interface than S/PDIF. It was developed by Philips when Philips and Sony created the CD format and the S/PDIF interface specification. I2S is a three or four-signal interface that includes clocks. This is the native interface for most D/A chips. Therefore if one can drive I2S directly and avoid S/PDIF translation, there is the opportunity to reduce jitter even more.
